The sweetest thing

So I took my first ride on the mommy train today. You know, most mommies start with a baby that sleeps much of the time. Has to be fed every two hours, but sleeps alot. Not this girl. Today was very exciting and she didn't want to miss a thing,

As we left the baby home, she was not too sure what to think. As we approached the hotel, though, she started playing her favorite game: throw stuff and watch mommy pick it up. That perked her right up. She has been in motion ever since we got here, around 2pm.

Her schedule is snack at 3 and 2nd nap from 3:30-5, so I fed her at 3. She ate two small containers of yogurt and most of med. size jar of pears. She wasn't too sure about the cheerios or fruit puffs. I don't have a high chair. I put her in a desk chair here and put the bib on her and she sat with her arms at her side and let me feed her. We did not even get the bib dirty at all. I suppose they had her well-trained at the baby home.

Then I gave her a sippy cup of water. She doesn't know what to do with a sippy cup.

aaaaannnnd...she's out. Took a short break there to hold her, give her a bottle with the lights off, and that put her out. I can type with both hands now. Her normal bedtime is 10:30 but she missed her afternoon nap. It's almost 9 here. When I put her in her crib just now, she rolled over to her tummy. I don't know at what age I'm supposed to let her do that, but at his point, I'm not doing anything to disturb her. She is big enough to roll whichever way she wants, so I suppose she is big enough to sleep on ther tummy. I just talked to C. He wishes he was here. I do too...and not just for the extra set of hands. She's so adorable that I hate for him to miss any of it.

You know what I wanna know? I wanna know when the construction I can see from my window RIGHT next to the hotel is going to stop. They are making a lot of noise out there. It's 9pm. Go home already.

Anyway, sippy cup. Doesn't know what to do with one. I asked...they give her a regular cup. In fact, they give her hot tea from a regular cup, I guess, since that is on the food schedule twice a day. I tried giving her a little water from one and no. Just, no. She does okay with a bottle. I have the fast and tri-cut cereal nipples. I gave her water in the fast nipple and formula with it just now. Used the tri-cut for the Kefir and she took about half a 10 oz bottle. The bottle with Kefir left over in it is in the fridge for in the morning...I may add a little water in the morning to make it easier for her to get it out. It's a little thick.

For dinner we did a spaghetti with meat sauce jar I bought here this afternoon. She ate it, but wasn't as eager for it as for the pears. Finished the rest of the pears. And I taught her how to self-feed with the cheerios and fruit puffs. Finally got the bib a little dirty because she kept putting it up over her mouth. Followed with a bit of Kefir and some water. And she does THE most adorable thing with her hands next to her temples. I imitiate it. It's our game. Our feeding game, apparently. I'll get C to record it someday. I'd upload a photo of it, but I am trying to upload video right now.

We are being picked up at 10:15 in the morning. I will try to post some more video in the morning. I am uploading now. It takes forever. I'm going to go get ready for bed, set another batch to upload, and hit the sack. Tomorrow we fly. Tomorrow will be a very long day....she did okay in the Ergo today for the short times I wore it down to the business center and back, but only when moving. When sitting, she is not interested in being in it. At first she fussed and screamed a little and believe me when I say that she does not do that unless she is very uncomfortable or upset. But once I got her bounced down in it and showed her us in the mirror, she did okay with it after that. She does okay in it my lap for periods, but she also likes to get down. The plane ride ought to be interesting. I don't plan to wear the Ergo after we are on the plane, but she will need to stay in my lap....

P.S. it is 9:35 pm. They are still banging away at construction over here....

How exciting Sherilyn!
Oh, and once babies can roll over on their own, you can't stop them from sleeping on their tummies, so don't worry about that. :)
Hope that construction has stopped and you both got some rest!

Hearing you say, "my sweet baby girl" just brought tears to my eyes! She's adoable!

I don't know what Kefir is, but for baby food and formula, I've always been told once they've eaten out of it, their saliva has gotten into it and you can't reuse it because bacteria can start to grow. When I feed James with baby food, I put 1/2 of it into a separate bowl (because he's only eating 1/2 a jar at a time right now) and refrigerate the rest. Forumla I toss if he hasn't finished teh whole bottle.

I honestly have NO idea how true that is though. Part of me thinks it's the manufacturer's scare tactic to get us to use more. But that's the cynic in me. :)

Good luck tomorrow!!

Sounds like you are doing great, Mommy! BTW, no need to be concerned about tummy sleeping, at her age.

Ditto-ing Patti on the baby food ... if you feed from the jar toss it. Formula I'll put back in the fridge if it hasn't been sitting around too long.

Once a baby can roll from it's back to it's tummy, tummy sleeping is okay. Bad mommy, grandma that I am I tummy-slept both of my kids, and all 3 GK ... they would NOT side/back sleep.

Good luck keeping N on your lap during the flight!
