Yeah, 'cause I didn't have enough yarn already...

Added some new yarn to the stash today. I popped into The Woolie Ewe for some sock yarn and I am not usually a sucker for sales, but couldn't pass these up. All the bagged yarn was half off. :D

The orange is for socks for me. No pattern yet, but since I've joined a sock knitalong group that gets a new pattern every two months, I am building a little stash of different types of yarn to use depending on the pattern we get. It's Melody 100% wool. I haven't ever done 100% wool socks for myself...I always think of wool as being too hot for Dallas, but it is supposed to be the best yarn for hiking socks, so I think I'll at least try a pair.

The gray yarn is for a scarf for Corey. It is Princess "Classic Elite"... 40% merino, 28% viscose, 10% cashmere, 15% nylon, 7% angora and it feels drrrreeeamy. Corey has mentioned a few times that I haven't knit anything for him. I won't knit him a sweater. a) They take forever...I'm more of an instant gratification gal when it comes to knitting. b) He doesn't WEAR sweaters. If I put one out for him to wear to work in January or so, He'll wear it, but other than that, in the almost ten years we've been married, I've never seen him wear a sweater just for the hell of it. He gets too hot in them here, and he's right...Dallas isn't good sweater country. I'm not spending 2 months of my life knitting a sweater that he'll wear maybe once or twice a year. c) I don't have to worry about whether a scarf fits. I just have to make it long enough, and since he is 6'2", that's pretty darn long. :D

BTW, I'm in the market for a nice classic looking men's scarf pattern if anybody has one.

The green yarn is Llama Seta from the Queensland Collection. 80% alpaca, 20% silk. I don't really have any plans for it...just really love it. May do a scarf for myself with it.

The pink yarn is machine washable 100% merino wool. Quite soft. Laines du Nord by Giunco, best I can gather from the labels. I plan to use some of this for socks...I got sucked into knitting children's socks for some Eastern European charity (what can I say....I'm a sucker for charity knitting) by a certain person in my sock knitalong who shall remain nameless (but she knows who she is, ahem). I need to knit two pairs by the end of May to be in the little prize drawing, and I finished one pair this weekend. I'm not thrilled with the yarn I used, though. Some machine washable 100% wool I had around the house. It is a bit rough, though. I'm hoping when I wash it it will soften up some. It isn't bad....just not particularly soft. I think this pink will knit up better. And who knows, maybe I'll add a few balls in with that green for a scarf....

Here's the pair of children's socks I've finished. The Kitchener stitch on one of them leaves a lot to be desired, but I did much better on the second one. The foot is about 6 inches long:

I haven't touched my own socks in a while, but plan to work on them on the flights to and from San Diego, which is just around the corner.

Oooohhhh! Lots of yummy yarn!

And the socks look great - love that colour. I find socks very addictive - though I haven't knitted any for a while. They're great for knitting in the back of a van on a road trip though ;)

LOL! Well, it needs to be almost as tall as he is. 6'2", i think that's sort of the unwritten rule of scarves. And 8-10 inches wide. With an intricate pattern and smallish needles, this yarn will go fast. :D

It would take about 20-22 balls to make a sweater for him.

Yeah - I was thinking you would have a lot of yarn left over after making a scarf - most scrafs would take 5 balls or less (mine usually only require 3)

hmmm, well, I'd just have to add that to my stash, LOL! It's such yummy yarn. Maybe if there is any left over, I can do a scarf for me, too.

I'm off to the yarn store tomorrow to see if I can find more of this dye lot or if I need to buy a different lot altogether for the dang sweater....
