Places I've been

I got this off my friend Veronica's blog:

Obviously, I've seen quite a bit of Europe. Corey and I discussed going on safari in Africa while we lived in the Netherlands, but it's hard to plan a visit like that too far in advance when I would like to get pregnant, and that is a trip that would have to be planned way in advance. I certainly don't want to be getting all kinds of vaccines or taking malaria pills while PG. We had every intention of seeing Egypt and Turkey when we first went over, but three weeks later 9/11 happened and Egypt or especially Turkey didn't seem like such a good idea after that. Since Corey is Jewish, most of the middle east is pretty much off-limits. He does want to go to Israel, but I'm not in any hurry to visit that region any time soon.

Asia...Corey went to China last year on business. And he's going again at the end of this month. It won't work for me to go with him...he would be away from his desk for a full two weeks, and that just isn't feasible. I'm disappointed, but I'll live. He knows I really want to go at some point, and we will. He just saw the Great Wall and the Forbidden City last year, though, so I'll give him some time before I make him go see it all again. 9/11 makes some countries in Asia more difficult. Indonesia and Malaysia come to mind. I would like to visit Thailand and India, though.

South America...well, if it wasn't so darn dangerous down there, I'd love to go. Might have to move that up on the list. Corey went to Colombia once for business and that was the longest three days of my life. The only time I knew he was alive and safe was when I was on the phone with him once a day. They traveled in armored cars followed by other armored cars with guards. How effed up is THAT?

Australia/New Zealand. We were talking about that last month again. Definitely on the list. Maybe in the next year or two if I don't get PG.

I have a cool Italian charm bracelet I got that has the flags of all the countries I've been to, plus Texas, of course ('cuz it's a whole 'nother country). ;-) Fifteen flags, I think. I need to get it out and wear it more often.

My goal is to hit all seven continents. There are cruises that stop at Antartica. I don't know if I could handle 21 days on a boat, but it's my dream cruise for sometimes after Corey retires and can go somewhere for 21 days. :D

Ooops, Corey is on his way home and I haven't showered since my work out. I think there is a map of the US you can do like this. I'll have to find that at some point....

South America has long been on my list of places I want to visit - but I really hesitate travelling there on my own - if you know what I mean.

I'd love it if you came to Australia...of course, I'd be happy to play tour guide and show you my corner of the world.

And funny you should mention a cruise to Antarctica - I have long dreamed of doing an Alaskan cruise (because even though Antarctica is closer - it is EASIER for me to get to Alaska - to get to Antarctica, you have to go to the bottom tip of South America, since that is where the cruises leave from)

I found the world map through someone else's blog who had the American map...so I think it comes from the same place (one of those surfing things - doubt if I'd ever find my exact trail again :))
