I'll look at patterns at the yarn store tomorrow, but this one is looking like a possibility. I'm undecided about whether this should be tailored enough to wear to work or something he can throw on for casual settings. Thing is, I've never actually SEEN him throw on a sweater for a casual setting. I guess if I made something for him, he'd feel compelled to, though. ;-) Corey spends most of his life in work clothes, though. Even when he comes home from work, he rarely changes out of his office clothes.
A big appeal is that the sweater above is mostly stockinette. There is a lot of shaping going on for the arms and so help me, I need to improve my seaming abilities before attempting to seam something like this, but at least it doesn't have a high-maintenance pattern to keep up with.
It's hard to find sweaters knit in the round....and inset sleeves are the look he will like, I am sure. I wonder how funky it wold look to knit in the round up until the sleeve decreases and then switch to straights for the top part, inseting the sleeves and seaming them as usual. It would save me from having to seam the sides, but would it look really weird? I know that gauge can be different knit in the round than on straights, too, so perhaps I'd better not mess with something this major. I guess I'll have to suck it up and master the mattress stitch eventually.

I think it will look fine if you knit in the round up to the raglan decreases. You can also knit the sleeves in the round to the decreases - which would only leave the raglan and shoulder seams. Looks like a fairly simple pattern - I think you can do it :)
