I've now tried two different bear patterns. The bear on the left seemed like it would be easier, as it is knit in the round from the top down with no seaming, but the other two, knit from the same pattern with different yarns, were actually easier. The yellow eyelash yarn is really great, as it doesn't show the seaming much at all. Seaming isn't my strongest suit....I tend to just do a blanket stitch around the edge, inside out. The eyelash yarn doesn't show that at all. I have two full skeins of this eyelash yarn that an NIN lady gave me when she decided it was too hard for her to crochet with, so this will be a perfect use for those. I can almost finish a bear in an evening. You just knit it on two needles and then fold it in half and seam around it. Very simple. The only increases and decreases are casting on extra stitches and casting off.
These and all their cousins I have yet to create will go into the Christmas bags for NIN this year. The yellow bear is about 7" high and is exceptionally soft in this chenille-type yarn. The pattern for it is here: http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/buddybears.html There is also a crocheted version.
