This was my first attempt at lace even though I finished the Sweetheart Socks first. Started these orange socks on the long ride home from my brother's house in Pensacola early last December. Just finished them week before last.
I like the yarn...I like the color and variegation of it. It is a bit scratchy, but I think it will soften up with washing. It may just feel a little off because I haven't worn socks in at least a month.
When I first started knitting socks, I didn't have a stash of leftovers. In the Six Sox KAL, I didn't have bits and pieces to use for socks that were designed for bits and pieces. I now have bits and pieces out the wazoo. I prefer shorter socks, usually, so I never come close to using all the 50 grams usually designated for each sock. I have 17 grams left for each orange sock...enough to use for heels or toes or something. Only I jump around so much with my color choices that the leftover bits I have almost never go together...someday I guess I'll have to do some patchwork psychedelic socks.
And on a side note, I machine sewed through my finger last night. It was after midnight, I was watching Planet of the Apes (the original) and piecing quilt tops for NIN when it happened. A rite of passage, I suppose. It isn't bad. I sew with thin needles and it went in right next to the nail and came out about 3/16" away. The needle broke, I pulled pieces out of both sides, and then had to pull the thread through since it had sewn the thread through as well. It hurt a bit but cold water stopped the bleeding and I bandaged it up good and waited about an hour for the throbbing to subside. It's a bit tender today and throbs a tiny bit, but you can barely see what looks like a pinprick where the needle came out. The entry wound is in the crease between nail and skin.
And I just got a dossier tip from Great Wall a week ago about keeping my fingertips in good shape to facilitate fingerprinting when CIS requests it so that we don't have to keep resubmitting fingerprints. This won't hurt that, though....it is barely a blip on my fingertip and will heal completely before we even have to have fingerprints done. I'm hoping to get our completed homestudy soon.
