So, today is the day of the bathroom

This is (was) the only wallpaper in the new house. It's in the guest bath. And I don't really object to wallpaper, but I hate this stuff. It just really isn't my style. So last week I started pulling it off. The plan is to texture the walls and paint in there. What color? I'm undecided, but will get decided later today. And yes, this is the same guest bath my SIL and her fiancee will be using tomorrow night when they fly in to town. So I do think I am a little crazy for starting this now, but hey, I work best under the gun.

Thing is, when I went to go start Dif'fing the walls at 6:00pm, I needed to do some prep work. Removed hardware and the mirror. Took the toilet apart at around 6:30 last night to get behind it for stripping and texturing and painting. This is where Dif'fing ground to a halt. I found yet another leaky valve to match the one under the kitchen sink. And no detachable supply hose, no, this puppy had a welded on curly pipe thing that wasn't going to be helpful to me. Leaking at a very high rate. It could easily fill up a bucket and then some overnight. So off to ACE I went. Good thing it is close by.

After talking it over with Daddy, the first plan was to use a compression valve on the end of the curly pipe to keep it from dripping. That didn't work. The pipe wasn't the right size and the ridges of the curls got in the way. Back to ACE, with only 5 minutes until it was going to close. So I bought a key to open the water meter out front and turn off the water to the house and a new valve to install on the wall after taking off this one.

Got out in the front yard in the dark with Corey holding a flashlight and the key didn't fit. A tad too big. It's after 8pm now. ACE is closed, so I stomped off to Home Depot to find another sized key. Found it, drove home, and told Corey that if this key didn't fit I would just kill myself and at least his sister would already be in town for the funeral.

The key fit. Hooray! Turned off the water and then wrestled with the old valve and the new one. These have to be on tight. I was grunting and cussing and holding one wrench down with my foot while forcing the nut in the other direction with all the force my little frame could muster on my second wrench. Got it as tight as I could, turned the water back on, ran in to make sure there wasn't water spraying all over the bathroom. Success!

So at about 10pm it was then time to sit down and watch a little football and Star Trek with Corey.

Started the actual Dif'fing at 11:30. Dif is this stuff you buy to help you remove wallpaper. You mix it with hot water, roll it on, wait 15 minutes, repeat, wait 15 minutes, then wet and scrape, wet and scrape. I have a nifty scraper. I don't have a Paper Tiger, which helps break up large pieces on the wall that won't pull up. So I was wetting and scraping to KZPS (classic rock) until 3:30am, at which time I had finished most of the big walls, so it was off to bed. Now I just have the area around the sink and door to do and the intimidating part of it is that I will have to remove the light fixture. It is way too heavy to just hang by its wires, which is what I did with the light fixture in the bathroom of the old house when I redid it. I'll have to go get acquainted with my fuse box here.

But I plan to have the whole bathroom textured before I go to bed tonight, which just leaves painting for tomorrow, and really, there isn't much to paint.

Which is good because this is what my guest room looks like right now:

Not exactly guest-ready. The bed from Hell is still in pieces in the garage, along with the dresser. My study isn't looking too finished, either:

That's all we've managed to move back in there since we got the new carpet put in. And the rest of my house?

A mess. You know, as much as I try, my yarn just refuses to stay put away. I have four projects spread all over the living room.

And I'll have Thanksgiving prep work to do tomorrow. Cooking and baking. Yeah, I'm definitely crazy...and I watched too much football on Sunday when I should have been tackling the bathroom then....

Guess I'd better get off here and get myself over to Home Depot for the wall texture stuff. I need to get a lot done before Corey comes home to put the bed together.

When your company is gone, Thanksgiving weekend is over, You have to post pictures of the bed from hell and the new bathroom. You really do like to work under pressure or something, huh?
