It took driving arond to all four grocery stores in town to find it, but I found it at the last one (of course).
For those of you who don't know what cake yeast is, it is a small 1 inch square cake of fresh yeast. The best thing for making fresh rolls from scratch with...much yeastier taste than dried yeast. My Aunt Veronica's Butterhorns recipe calls for it. I was beginning to panic and practically passed out with relief when I saw the little tray of it in Albertson's, right where it was supposed to be, near the biscuits and refrigerated pie doughs.
Don't other people bake bread from scratch for Thanksgiving? I swear, every year that stuff gets harder and harder to find. And what ticks me off about it is that it isn't like it is an expensive item for the stores to carry. They charge me $1.39 per cake. It must cost them less than $20 for two or three trays of it and if some of it doesn't sell, so what? Those unsold turkeys piled up in the freezers are going to cost them a lot more.
Grrrrrr......
I have so much to do. Still haven't Dif'fed the wallpaper I started tearing down in the guest bath. I'm going to start that as soon as I get all these groceries put away....

Hi Sherilyn! I guess maybe making home made bread is something not many more people do either!! I've looked for yeast but have had a hard time finding it. :-( Glad you finally found some!
