Just received my Knit Picks order. I have another order that should have come today, I think, the one with the Koigu. Maybe it will still make it here. Not sure if it is coming USPS or UPS or what.
So the yarn I want to use for the current Six Sox pattern is not here yet, but these yarns are here. Two Essential colors: Pumpkin and Petunia, one Memories color: Redwood Forest, and one of the new Essential tweed colors: Inca Gold
I know, the Petunia doesn't seem like my thing. But I figure in a couple of months when Dallas has turned brown and dreary, shockingly pink yarn might cheer me up.

Last night I started a fingerless glove pattern recommended by my friend Jean. This is from the summer Knitty online issue. Sorry about the dark photo, the flash washed out the cables and I'm not dressed for the outdoors at the moment. The light blue waste yarn is where the thumb hole goes....I'll work that tonight or this weekend. I'll send these off to Children in Common..they are for the caregivers there. But I can see these popping up in the Christmas gift of at least one person on my list. These are my first cables...and I must say, cables are SO FREAKING EASY. Who knew? Before I started knitting, I thought they'd be really hard. They're not. They are a bit time consuming, but not hard. At all. I think I will start cabling up a storm. I have a cabled sock pattern I am dying to try. Probably with the pumpkin yarn I bought above.
I also tried the Magic Loop needle method for the first time. I may be a convert. Okay, I am definitely a convert. I have been a dpn gal up 'til now (that's double pointed needles for all you non-knitters following along). Crystal Palace bamboo. I don't have any trouble with them...never had any desire to try magic loop or the two circular method of knitting small diameter objects. But this pattern called for size 6 dpns and mine seem to be packed away somewhere. But my 24" Addi Turbo #6 circulars were at hand last night. I think a 32" needle may work better, but the 24" really didn't give me too much trouble on such a small number of stitches. I just ordered sock-sized needles from Knit Picks. I want their sharp points if I am going to be dealing with sock yarn. I may never go back to dpns...we'll see. I guess there may be room for both.... but I can use slicker metal needles with magic loop and I don't use them for dpns because I don't want to worry about a needle slipping out when I have to put it down in hurry.
Magic Loop...I highly recommend it....if you want to check it out, there is an instructional vid here.
