The kitchen is an absolute disaster right now. The hard thing about it is making all these "big" decisions about what goes where. Do the measuring cups go in this drawer or that one? Do the steamer and the food processor go in this cabinet or that one? I know I'll end up moving half of it around later anyway. And the kicker is that these upper cabinets are higher than my old ones. The second shelf is about as high as the top of the fridge, so I'm trying to put things we use all the time, like dishes and glasses, on the lower shelf....and the lower shelf near the dishwasher isn't very long. This kitchen DOES have more cabinet space than the old house, but so much of that cabinet space is out of my reach, LOL! I'll have to get one of those rolling stools to kick around when I need something on the second shelf or, heaven forbid, the third. At least I do have a place to keep one of those in here. We are looking at black granite for the countertops in here. It's beautiful, but I think it needs some contrast for effect.
And the dinette set. Corey commented on how small it looks here. It was really packed in the nook at the old house. When we had company we had to move it out a bit and whoever sat near the window was still pretty locked in. We can actually walk all the way around it here, LOL! I'll may add a sideboard or corner hutch or something at some point to help fill in that space, though.
The living room is great. We can't put our TV in the built-ins, however, so we had to have a new cable installed in another corner. But the built-ins will be great for displaying completed albums and souvenirs from our travels. We are stumped about what to put on the mantle, as it is a bit grander than our last one. If we had some big family portrait, that would go there, but we don't. Corey
suggested my wedding portrait, but I think it would be a little....conceited....to put a big honkin' portrait of ME on the mantle. I think it will go on the wall leading to our bedroom, only slightly visible from the living room. I don't know...maybe we will find a painting we really like to go on the mantle, but it seems like whatever is there should have some sort of meaning or significance. Maybe I will take a great scenery photo or two from our travels and have them sort of done up in a painter's style and put that there. It's a thought.
The master bedroom needs some color. The ceiling is double coffered and the moulding isn't really brought out by the current cream paint. I'll probably go just a tad darker in there at some point. And the bathroom needs some decorating. I can't believe I actually have space in my master bath for little pieces of furniture and decorations. :D Corey
isn't crazy about the tub...he thinks a jet tub would be better for resale, but I keep telling him that the tub is awesome and women really "get" the tub, LOL! I'm not a bath person, but I'll have to try it out soon. The previous owners had started renovating the bath and had gone whole hog, intending to stay here, but then the wife got a job transfer to FL
so they finished installing the tub fixtures and that was that. They must have dropped a lot of money on that travertine tile and tub surround and tub, though. We will likely redo the cabinets and countertop in keeping with the "old world" look and again, the walls need a bit more color to show off the mouldings.
The craft room. Yahoo! enough room for me to work, finally. This is the second bedroom and it is about 1.5 times bigger than the last bedroom I had mystuff in. And the closet is bigger, too. :D The sewing table is on the left...it is my great-aunt's old kitchen table and the extra height on it makes it great for sewing. I'll have my regular machine on one side and my serger on another. My kitchen
island is big enough that I don't need a cutting table in here. The desk under the window is for scrapping, but I will soon be replacing it with a whole Crop in Style set-up. VERY excited about that. And the closet has plenty o' space for all my yarn and sundries. The color is so very "me", but it was already this color, as is the jack and jill bath and the third bedroom, which currently has no use but will hopefully someday be a nursery.
And finally, the dining room looking through to the study, which also has French doors to the kitchen. I'm going to need a rug for in here and one for the living room. Which ought to be interesting because I've never bought big rugs like this before. But I'm looking forward to the challenge of finding the right ones. :D The previous owners used the study for a playroom and we may use it for that someday, too. (Hopefully.)The guest bedroom (4th bedroom) is full of boxes and an unassembled bed. We plan to replace the carpet in there (all the bedrooms have carpet), so we will wait before assembling the Bed From Hell that used to be our master bed. And the guest bath is the only room that needs immediate renovation...I can't stand the wallpaper, LOL!
That's all for now. I still need to go iron pants for Corey for tomorrow and maybe I'll post some more photos this week. The garage is awesome...plenty of room for shelving. Daddy helped me get it all set up when he was here. (He was an angel and without him I couldn't have gotten the rest of our stuff out of the old house and gotten it cleaned up in time Thursday...or gotten everything in the garage put away the first day we were here.) The laundry room is roomy, too. I'm just in heaven with all this freaking space! Corey is worried we won't have closet space for all our stuff and it will be stacked around like it was in the old house, but the man is CRAZY. I think...no I know we will have closet space left over, at least for a little while. :D
