Back on-line

I called my mother the day of the move and expressed my new-found appreciation. She moved numerous times with 2, 3, or 4 kids...and I don't know how she did it. I could barely move the two of us. I guess she had it down to a science, even though we always had unexpected things happen like when I was 4, the moving van caught fire in front of the house or, when I was 16 the moving van got stuck trying to turn at the end of my parents' long country driveway, so they had to unload the van down a blacktop road, down a long driveway, into the house...all in the pitch dark with portable lights set up as well as possible. Mom says when they moved to El Paso before I was born, they showed up at the new house to meet the van and waited two hours for the van to show up. It didn't. Turns out the van drivers had spent the previous evening in Mexico getting drunk and were passed out somewhere, so the El Paso Allied people had to drive around the local motels looking for the van.

So at least the van didn't catch fire, didn't get stuck, and the movers didn't take a side trip to Juarez. (Although they would have been right at home...I think only two of them spoke much English....one spoke almost no English at all.)

Got to go now, though...I am dying to treat myself to a manicure/pedicure. Haven't had a pedicure in about 8 years and I really want one today because I have been on my feet for three days and the dogs are really barking, so I'd better go do it. The fridge delivery is scheduled for sometime after 4:45, so I have an hour and a half. :D
