Slooow progress. This monotony...errr...moss stich is brainless and easy to do while watching TV, but good grief. The progress is slow. I've knit on it just about every evening for a couple of hours for over a week. last night I had to take a moss break and either do cables or slit my wrists. I suppose I could start on the body. I may do that soon.
These are the sleeves. I am knitting them simultaneously to make sure they come out the same length. Using a circular needle like straights so that the cable will bear the weight and not my hands.I'm not entirely sure how well the cabling is going to show with this yarn, but I think it will be okay. They won't be as tightly defined as a tightly twisted yarn would make them, but I'm willing to live with that in order to use a yarn I think he will wear.
And I'm sure the new neighbors will probably all want to get to know the crazy lady who stands on her front porch in her robe taking photos of yarn. Thankfully our front porch is somewhat shielded from view and there aren't any neighbors wandering the street right now...

I'm wondering what fingerless gloves are used for? I'm sure it will make perfect sense when you tell me, but right now it doesn't.
They keep your hands warm but allow you to wipe runny noses, change diapers, etc. From what I understand, lots of ladies up north like them in the fall and also to wear around the house in the winter when it is chilly. In the Russsian orphanage, they don't have much heat, so these keep the hands warm while still allowing the caregivers to do what they need to do. :D
