Living on borrowed gas

Okay, so first up, here is the link to the Six Sox Knit-along. I should probably add it to my links here at some point, but that would take messing with the code and I am definitely not in the mood to mess with the code right now. :D

Any sock knitter can sign up as long as sign-ups are open, and right now they are. It helps to have some knowledge of sock knitting, but there are folks on the list who are very new to socks.

And for other news, two days ago when I went to make dinner, my gas range stopped working. Nothing would ignite. I'd just get that annoying clicking sound with no flame. So between the oven, the steamer, and the microwave I managed to get dinner on the table and figured I'd give it another day.

Yesterday morning the back burner lit up for a second but immediately went out and no other burners would light. Cooked without it last night again. So last night I got out the home warranty stuff and planned to schedule an appointment today for them to come out and fix the range. We figured the pilot light was out or something, but we can't get to any sort of pilot light and the previous owners didn't leave us one single manual for any appliances.

A couple of hours ago Corey called and told me he didn't have any hot water for his shower this morning. Just lukewarm water. hmmmm....so maybe the pilot light is out under the heater, too. ? Awfully coincidental. I told him I'd go up in the attic and take a look at some point and make sure we have a gas water heater and then call my dad to see if he could tell me anything to do over the phone. Of course, I didn't just jump up and go do this and when Corey called back after 45 minutes for the verdict, nothing had changed. I wasn't even sure why I would call Daddy...I mean, if he was here it would be one thing, but I don't know if he could tell me what to do with gas over the phone. So then I told Corey I don't even know who I would call about it. We got to talking about it and suddenly it all made sense in an "I don't believe it" sort of way.

We don't HAVE a gas company. At least we didn't until about 30 minutes ago. We didn't have gas at the old house...we've never had gas. So when we moved I arranged for electric, TV, phone, water, etc. Didn't give a second thought to the gas. I don't know who I thought we were getting it from...apparently I didn't think about it very hard. :D

And apparently it took them until two days ago to cut us off.

In any case, we are supposed to get hooked up today, so even though I have to return tile samples to the Home Depot Expo across town today I am tied to my house until the gas person shows up. But hopefully we'll have hot water for showers in the morning and gas to cook with tonight...and it won't be free this time....

LOL - well that was fixed much easier than I thought it would be when I first started reading this ;)

If only all problems could be so easily solved!

LOL that sounds like something I'd do. Both not thinking about the gas company and calling Daddy even if it wouldn't help :)
