I'm trying to resist, at least for a day. We get our new challenges in the BSG game tomorrow and if I could try to fit it to one and finish it in one month to get points, I have to wait until tomorrow to start if I do that. But realistically, am I going to finish a lace stole in one month? Seriously? I might as well cast on asap nd treat it as a long-term project. I'll probably knit on it non-stop for a few days, scratch the itch, and then incorporate it into my WIP rounds.
Except that I've also been thinking about travel knitting since hopefully we will be on our way to Russia next week. I need something light, small, and yet interesting enough to work on for hours and hours on a plane. A complicated sock pattern would work, but I am just NOT into socks right now. A stole will grow, but it can also be wadded up and put in a small bag and goodness knows we will have some space and weight issues with our luggage, so small and light is the way to go....and it needs to be something that will take me a long time, since I will have a lot of knitting time. A single baby sweater won't take that long. And a sweater for me would be too big and require too much carry-on space. But if I pretty much only knit on the stole while travelling, I could potentially finish it in one month...especially since I truly hope to be doing two trips this month. Yes, I know....on the last leg of the last trip I'd better have my hands full with something other than knitting...but I'll be able to knit on the way there.
Sure, I'll take my little 2x2 rib travel sock for mindless knitting when I need it, but I'm craving complicated lace right now...at least, more complicated than 2x2 rib.
I've been knitting a lacy baby jacket, but it just isn't doing it for me the way a laceweight stole would.
Most of the stoles I like on Ravelry require either way more than 800 yds or just a little more than what I have. Sigh. Back to searching.....I have yarn in other colors in the quantitiy to make a very large stole, but I really want to use this green now. For lace. Tonight.

yummie green yarn....lust lust~~~
HI there - found you from the ravelry int'l adoption boards...did you settle on a pattern for the green yarn yet? Just a thought - but you could find a pretty lace scarf pattern and double it width wize - the leaf lace scarf would be pretty in that color. I think you want a rectangular stole, but I've done the traingular leaf lace shawl in green which is very pretty - the small one takes less than 800 yds of laceweight. Can't wait to see what you've decided on.
OK, I will admit to be uneducated on lace, but what about some smaller lace item that could be potentially framed or otherwise displayed in N's room (decorative pillow, etc).
That green is just drool worthy!
I also need to get back into the BSG group, I had no idea there was anything going on now that the show over so to speak.
Gorgeous color & I think that will be enough yarn. And you can stop when you see you are close. I really want to knit that shawl in some sea silk.
