We have a gas range, so I fixed dinner in my Phantom of the Opera kitchen. The huge "blaze" on the left is our menorah. I used every candelabra we have. And the place smelled like mango/cinnamon/apple/caramel. Those don't even give off that much light. I opened the freezer and grabbed a skillet meal lightning quick...and we skipped the salad because that would mean opening the fridge...

We played Gin Rummy and chatted all night. It was nice. We hadn't really seen each other since Sunday. We had a really hard time remembering the rules. We'd play a few hands and remember something else. It took us three hands to even decide how many cards to deal! I have one of those stovetop popcorn makers, so at least we had popcorn...

This morning starting at 4am, it rained some more. Lots of thunder...hours of it. We had our own private lake in the back yard until it drained this afternoon. Luckily we didn't lose any tree branches or any fence pieces, but some neighbors lost parts of Bradford pears...which, btw, are very crappy trees to have around here for that reason. There are little bits of tree all over the streets here.

This afternoon I bought a storm radio, oil lamps, replenished the candle supply, and bought a Hoyle rules paperback. Can't ask the internet when the internet isn't there...
Hopefully we'll never go without power that long again, but at least now we are better prepared.

Oh my goodness. That is some crazy weather. At least you were able to find the deck of cards, rules be damned.
