In this episode of As the Adoption Turns

The Russian court wants to dot the i's and cross the t's and get a letter of relinquishment from N's birth mother. N was relinquished, with signature, at the hospital, and I am not sure why that isn't good enough, but apparently the Russian court needs to at least request a second relinquishment.

N's mother is from Uzbekistan and left Russia for Uzbekistan after N's birth. Nobody knows where she is now. The Russians have contacted the Uzbek govt. through official channels to get this letter. The judge in our region is willing to go forward after two weeks whether or not they have heard from the Uzbeks. We are lucky in that regard. According to our agency, one family in another region waited more than a year for a similar circumstance in Azerbajain.

This is out of the blue for us. Apparently the Russian court has already contacted the Uzbeks and the clock is already ticking on the two weeks, but we don't have confirmation on exactly when the two weeks started or when we will get a court date. So now we are hoping for a court date at the end of July. Perhaps the 23rd or 30th.

Our visas arrived while I was on the phone with my agency. They are good through the 28th. If we go to court on the 23rd, we can travel on these visas for the second trip. If it is after that, we cannot travel on these visas at all, since you must enter and leave under the same visa. In any case, we will need a visa for trip three...since we may need it for trips two and three, we may pay extra and get double-entry visas. I hate to wait until the last minute to see if we will need double-entry or not, but we will decide this weekend what we are going to do about the visa situation.

Ever just want to lie down and eat a plate of fudge topped with a gallon of ice cream and watch trashy TV for three days straight? I'm there. But I have errands to run and a house to clean and laundry to do. I have a feeling this will be a chocolate kind of night at Knit Night tonight, though. And I'm pretty sure when I meet Liz for dinner beforehand, there will be an alcoholic drink involved. Just sayin'.

AARRGGGHHHHHHHH.

Your judge sounds fair though, at least they started it before hand.

AND, the drink & chocolate sounds like the best plan - i'd give about anything to be able to jump over and join you. Or at least eat ice cream and watch trashy TV for 3 days... heck, ONE DAY down right now would be good.

oh honey. big hugs!

I kept hitting reload this morning hoping that you guys were busy making your flight plans.

Sends some of that special sweet tea and an extra large "Texas" sized chocolate cheese cake (topped with fudge).

I'm sorry to hear of this additional stress. Chocolate and drinks for sure!

Do they only have court on Thursdays?

Well dang, cyber hugs just don't cut it in this instance...I sure do wish I lived nearby to give you a real hug.

I don't drink and I'm not a chocoholic but alcohol and fudge sound appropriate...definitely the alchohol...lol.

As T said, it does sound as though the judge is being fair.

I think chocolate, alcohol and knitting are all richly deserved. Enjoy. :)

Awwh, I checked in hoping to hear your flights were booked. Sorry about the delay - maybe the clock has almost counted down and you'll get good news soon.

Prayers and love!
