My sheeples

So yesterday I drove to Austin and back. I was back by 2:30 in the afternoon and immediately tried to take a nap, but although I was able to zone out for a bit, I was not able to sleep. Which was sad, really. I had not slept well the night before and even pulled over in Salado on the way home, parked in the Brookshire's parking lot, and took a 15 minute catnap because prior to that I was having real difficulty staying awake and I didn't want to die, so a nap seemed in order. I call it "rebooting". Sometimes I just need to let myself reboot for a few minutes and succumb to sleep, and then my brain is fine and wide awake.

Then I hopped in the shower and headed over to Addison for the DFW Fiberfest. One of the Rockstars, Alissa (The Knitting Fairy), was recently diagnosed with lymphoma, and the Rockstars, led by Amy, decided to set up a yarn-winding table at Fiberfest to help raise funds for her. I was planning to wind yarn all day Friday...until I discovered that I was going to be driving to Austin instead. I did a little bit of shopping and then some of us went out for drinks and a snack, then went to the fashion show. After that there were a few more drinks and an insane amount of food and way too much fun and I got home around 11:30 and and went straight to bed.

This morning I got up at 8 and typed up the handouts for the class I taught today at 2pm. I then bound off one of my class samples and hopped in the shower. I went to go print the handouts, but our printer is now out of ink. So I put the files on a USB drive, packed up all the stuff I needed for today, and went to Kinkos to print the files. Then as I was headed down 635 toward FF, C called. Asking if the visas had arrived.

@#%$

So I immediately exited and turned around and went home, where I found them on the porch, thank goodness. I had completely forgot about them. I guess they delivered them after I left and I am so glad they were there because it was 12:30 and my class was at 2 and I was going to be pushing it if I had to track them down...but yet, we absolutely have to have them to get into Russia.

So I was off to FF again and once I arrived there I was able to relax a bit and mingle and I didn't ever eat lunch, but oh well. I ate a granola bar in the car.

My class was from 2-5 and it was fun. I hope my five students enjoyed themselves as much as I did. I was really nervous about presenting a class where they felt like they really learned something new and worthwhile. I think they did. I hope they did.

My brain has been going in five different directions all week, and I've felt like I need a sticker that says "forgive the scatterbrain, but I'm in labor". Seriously, someone needs to invent that tee shirt for adoptive moms. But now the hard stuff is done. Getting the apostilles in my hot little hands yesterday afternoon calmed a lot of fears I've had all week and now I am on the home stretch. I still have a lot to do tonight and tomorrow, but it's manageable. I still have this niggling fear in the back of my mind that we will have a flight delay that will screw us, but that is way beyond my control at this point, so I just refuse to think about it. Once I board my flight Monday, I will have done all that I can and I better've done all I am supposed to.

Here are a few Rockstar photos.

Yes, those are sheep ears. Yes, I have some, too.

The moebius pattern I taught today. We did a smaller cowl version in class, but this version is easily adaptable form the pattern.

And now I have wasted enough time. I need to go layout the suitcases and proceed with packing. Since C's flight leaves at 7am tomorrow, and he needs to take two of the carry-ons with him, I need to pack tonight so I know what to send with him.

It was so. good. after this crazy-assed super-stressful week, to be among my sheeples for the last two days. I don't know if they realize how much I have needed to unwind and how much I appreciated them listening to me vent about my daily dramas. And I will be at FF for a little while tomorrow since Amy has volunteered to teach me how to get videos off my camcorder and onto YouTube. We will need to send videos to our adoption doctor back here while we are away and I don't know the first thing about compressing or editing video.
