I'm headed off to Kid 'n' Ewe in the morning with three of the Rockstars (from my Knit Night). With a high needs child coming (hopefully) soon, this may be my last girlfriend getaway for quite some time. No, my life will not grind to a halt when our son comes home, but all adopted children, especially toddlers and older, are high needs. Promoting attachment will be paramount and being away from him for more than a few hours won't be a desirable option for quite some time. We are fortunate that I can stay home and do some hardcore bonding with him.
So after this it may be a while before I head out with girlfriends for the weekend, and that's okay. I've waited a long time for motherhood and I know going in that adoptive motherhood has its own demands. But I think I will particularly relish this retreat...probably the last one I'll go on without missing my child and wondering exactly how he is.
C will be on hand to look after my fantasy team this weekend, but I don't think there will be any reason to change it from where it is set. Cutler played tonight and got me 41.11 points, which made me very happy. I sat Kellen Winslow and played Owen Daniels (tight ends). They both have great matchups and Kellen really hit it out of the park tonight with lots of yards and two touchdowns. 25 points is pretty unreal for a tight end. But he's been out for a bit and Owen has been very reliable so with two good matchups, I went for Owen. We'll find out Sunday if I regret it.
For Mom, my fantasy line up right now is:
QB - Cutler
RB - Thomas Jones, Jets
RB - Ronnie Brown, Miami
WR - Calvin Johnson, Detroit
WR - Roddy White, Atlanta
TE - Owen Daniels, Houston
K - Lindell, Buffalo
DEF - Carolina
I'm second in the league behind my husband, whom I lost to last week by a measly little 10 points. Hmph. Before that, I had five straight wins against Curtis, Rudy, Mike/Theresa, Eric, and Denny. Curtis almost doesn't count, though. My cousin is divorcing him and I guess he has decided not to participate any longer in our league. He drafted a good team, but if he ever changed the line-up around, he stopped weeks ago. When I played him, he didn't have anyone on a bye, but he did have bad match-ups he didn't manage and his defense is Cincinnati, which is a disaster. Some folks have been lucking out when they hit him on bye weeks...when Rudy played him, I think he had 4 people in his line-up who weren't even playing that week. It's kind of a bummer to have a team that is non-competitive, especially since the bye weeks give his opponents a big advantage, but it is what it is.
This week I play Tony. Then it's just three more weeks until the playoffs. C is the only one of us that has clinched a playoff spot. If I win this week, maybe I'll clinch one, too. My brother Rudy is number three in the league, so my immediate family is doing quite well and the Weaver boys are 5th, 6th, and 7th going into this weekend.
