Tonight is the season opener...the Giants and Redskins will be kicking off at 6pm my time...that's just two hours away.
We finished our fantasy draft Tuesday, so I have had two days to figure out who I am playing...realistically, I can change my line up until the individual player's games get underway. I do have one guy going tonight.
My line-up for now...who knows, I keep waffling on my running back selections:
QB - Tom Brady, Patriots
RB - Clinton Portis, Redskins
RB - Thomas Jones, Jets
WR - Santonio Holmes, Steelers
WR - Calvin Johnson, Detroit
TE - Kellen Winslow, Browns
K - Stephen Gostkowski, Patriots
DEF - Tampa Bay
My bench:
RB - Ricky Williams, Miami
RB - Ronnie Brown, Miami
RB - Selvin Young, Denver
WR - Chad Ocho Cinco*, Bengals
I logged on a few minutes ago to double check my line-up and see if any new news is out...apparently my top ranked kicker was MIA from practice today. He has an "undisclosed injury". Great. I don't have a back-up, but neither do the Pats, so I guess I am okay unless they sign another kicker between now and Sunday.
Brady appears to have a cracked bone in his foot**, but says he is ready to play and his coach has finally stated that Brady is "expected to play". Coach Belichick obviously missed his calling. He should have joined the National Security Administration because clearly, everything he knows is a state secret. That's the thing that sucks most about having Patriots on your team...you never know wtf is going on with them until the last minute.
I'm very heavy on running backs right now and light on everyone else. Brady will have a bye on week four, so I will have to drop somebody by then to pick up a temporary replacement for him. I'm waiting to see what happens with my running backs. I picked up Brown and then, late in the draft I "handcuffed" Williams to him. This is common practice when your star RB may have longevity issues and so you pick up his back-up in case he goes down. Brown was stellar for me last year until he tore up his knee. But now Williams may be getting more carries than Brown, so now I've almost got Brown handcuffed to Williams, which is weird. We don't have a lot of bench room for handcuffs in our league. One of them will have to go eventually. I hate to say it, but the best thing that can happen for me in that line-up is if one of them goes down and the other has to step in and do it all instead of sharing. Williams appears to be off the ganja for a while, so if he can "just say no" all season and not get hurt, he could be a great RB. Maybe he will keep on out-shining Brown and earn more carries. Running-back-by-committee sucks for fantasy owners. I guess I'll see what happens and who really ends up being the workhorse/red zone guy for Miami.
This is C's first year in our league...his line-up as it stands right now (cuz I know Mom wants to see it):
QB - Peyton Manning, Colts
RB - Brian Westbrook, Eagles
RB - Earnest Graham, Tampa Bay
WR - Plaxico Burress, Giants
WR - Anquan Boldin, Arizona
TE - Chris Cooley, Redskins
K - Phil Dawson, Browns
DEF - Green Bay
and also for Mom, my brother Rudy's line-up as it stands right now....
QB - Jon Kitna, Detroit
RB - Marion Barber, Cowboys
RB - Frank Gore, SF
WR - Marques Colston, Saints
WR - Jerricho Cotchery, Jets
TE - Jason Witten, Cowboys
K - Neil Rackers, Arizona
DEF - Minnesota
My opponent this weekend is Tony. His big hitters are Randy Moss (but if he gets a TD, so will Brady), Braylon Edwards (Browns), and Marshawn Lynch (Buffalo). C is playing against Geoff and Rudy is playing against Eric.
There hasn't been one single misogynisic peep out of Geoff yet this year. Perhaps the fact that my husband is now in the league is prompting him to bite his tongue. We'll see.
* the wide receiver formerly known as Chad Johnson has officially changed his name to Chad Ocho Cinco (his number is 85). Clearly a nutter...we've all known that for years. As long as he hauls in some TD's for me, he can call himself whatever he wants.
** Brady also appears to have food poisoning, something I am expecting him to recover from before Sunday

HI I'm your Football swap upstream pal. Nice selection of players you have in your FF league. I have Santonio Holmes in my FF league. I hope does well. Take care and I hope you have a great weekend. I have noted that you're breaking out of your socknitting obsession.
Hey, I had Plaxico on my team when I played...once...two seasons ago.
It was fun but I just don't have the brain space for it. I'll be watching your updates and cheering for you though :) Since it was you that inspired me to play in the first place!!!
~Heidi...patiently waiting for hockey...
