No, this isn't for my little boy. This is for the son of a friend. I was sending her a package because we were exchanging some scrapbooking albums and I decided to send along a little hoodie for her baby, who is, I think, about 7-8 months old now. They live in Indiana, so I figure she will get some use out of it. I did the one-year size.
I used the Half-pint Hoodie (aka the Lime Hooded Jacket) pattern out of a Better Homes and Gardens booklet I found at Michaels. It called for dk weight yarn...it wasn't until I got home that I realized it was to be held double, so I suppose it could be done with worsted or aran weight to get appox. the same sizes. This mom is a non-knitting mother of three young boys, so I wanted this to be low maintenance and able to stand up to a lot. I did it with Bernat Satin Sport Ombres in the "seashore" colorway. I intentionally didn't hold the yarns together at matching color points...and I didn't have any trouble with pooling other than a few places on the sleeves when I was decreasing and for several rounds would hit just the right stitch count for pooling...so at those points I did cut one yarn a couple of times to adjust the color flow. The only downside to this yarn is that it is a bit slick, so I wove in the ends extensively and washed and dried it once myself to make sure they were secure.
This is a super easy pattern...the only seaming is a few stitches under the arms. The shoulders are kitchener stitched, but I don't consider that seaming, really. I actually enjoy the kitchener stitch. The arms were picked up and the arm holes are roomy and I hope the hood fits her little one. I liked the ribbing around the face to keep the wind out and the hood on. Hopefully it works.
The first photo above is the truer color.
