Pajama Day

First off, Van Halen was ******* awesome. I try to keep this blog fairly family friendly, so I'll leave the asterisks to your imagination. :D I think The Police still ranks as the top concert we've been to in the last year or so, as Sting's voice was so clear and we had really great seats where we could really see him and I knew the words to every single song. The Eagles were good too...I am sort of tied between Van Halen and The Eagles. And Billy Joel was good, but that was an entirely different sort of concert. We've been to so many and while I have nejoyed all of them. I have to rank The Police, VH, and The Eagles as my top three.

C, of course, ranks The Eagles before VH, and The Who is much higher on his list than on mine, but for me, VH was a rockfest...and it took me back to college, where I didn't ever get to see VH, but went to other concerts of a similar vein. It was loud, fun, and Eddie can still play that guitar. They had a huge screen behind the stage where they constantly showed the guys on stage and lots of close-ups of Eddie playing. He came out toward the end and sat on the edge of the stage and played for a long time by himself. It was also really cool to see him playing with his son, since Wolfgang, who is 16, has replaced Michael Anthony as the bassist. We were near the sound staging area in the center of the floor, and I think Valerie Bertinelli was there...and I noticed that Eddie was wearing his wedding band. But then wasn't their divorce just announced? I thought they divorced long ago, but I guess that was a separation. Anyway, the concert was good (they played for two hours, which was nice...so many acts are only doing 90 minutes now) and DH even broke down and bought a tee. He always resists buying concert tees since the prices are completely out of hand, which cracks me up because the ticket prices are nuts, too, and he pays those, but VH wanted $35 for the tee we wanted. The Who and The Police were asking up to $50....and there is nothing that will make DH buy a $50 t-shirt. Well, okay, if Led Zeppelin ever goes back on the road, I am pretty sure he will do it without blinking an eye.

We also saw Mystere while in Vegas, and La Reve. I recommend both. C liked La Reve better and I liked Mystere better. We had great seats to both...excellent seats, really, for Mystere. Center section, about 8 rows back. We were on the last rown of the first section and when the clown guy came out to do stuff in the audience before the stage show, he kept walking behind us and around us. I just knew he'd end up stopping eventually, and he finally did, reaching his hand into the back of C's shirt and pulling out a white lace bra and then shaking his finger at him. At least he didn't pour popcorn all over him. One guy in our section got three bowls of popcorn poured over his head!

We also saw the Mac King show one afternoon. I highly recommend it. It is appropriate for children and was a lot of fun. He is a comedien/magician and very good. He was funny, his sleight of hand is very good, and it was a great way to spend a couple of hours. It's a shame, really. We saw David Copperfield on a lark last time we were there and it was terrible...Mac King is so much better. But yet Copperfield is more famous. Maybe Copperfield used to be good...I don't know, but nowadays his show is a basically a huge ego-driven tribute to himself with maybe 6 or 7 tricks in it. Some of which are not very good at all. The whole show was extremely underwhelming. And then to see Mac King, who is actually funny and does some truly impressive little tricks on a bare bones stage...well, it's a shame that Copperfield is the rich and famous one.

We got in last night and I slept for ten hours straight and then spent the day on the sofa in my pajamas, watching football and knitting. I finished the Moebius Scarf on the way to Vegas and love it. It is so versatile. I'll post photos later this week after I get C to take some of me in it. It was perfect for covering my head when it was cold and windy or for wearing as a sort of shrug while at the blackjack table near the doors to the casino where the cold air was coming in.

C is home with dinner, so I'm off....

I saw VH back in the 80's a few times and really enjoyed them. I wanted to see them here in DC in October, but was in GA for the football game. They're coming back to Baltimore next year - maybe I can see them then! Glad you had a good time!
