We finally got an antenna for the tuner we have set up in a cabinet in our living room, so I turned on the radio while I was prepping lamb chops a few minutes ago. I thought it was weird that they were playing Willie Nelson on my classic rock staion, but hey, I grew up listening to Willie and this is Texas, so sometimes the classic rock crosses over a bit.
But the country kept on coming, with the occasional Southern Rock song. So once I got the marinade ready I went over to make sure I had the right channel.
92.5 FM. It's the right one. Even went to my portable radio to make sure I had the station right.
Yeah, it's the right station, only it's wrong.
So now I've heard Willie, CCR, George, and now ZZ Top just came on.
WTF?
Went to the website. Not sure what to think. I mean, I like some country...the stuff I listened to in the late 80's wasn't bad. I don't like a lot of the newer "pop" stuff, but I don't mind some Willie and some George every now and then.
But I listen to this station a lot and never knew this was coming.
And I'm kinda pissed. The Zoo has been the best classic rock station in the metroplex for as long as I can remember. And now I'm listening to some guy singing a country song about standing in the Texas sun that I've never heard before. I just googled the chorus. It's Pat Green. Who the hell is Pat Green, and what's he doing on my station?
Now, I'm not some sort of music junkie. I don't own an Ipod, I've never downloaded a song. I haven't bought a CD in a few years, and even then it was The Who and Santana for Corey's car. I like familiar music. Music I know. I don't know Pat Green. I know Rush and Queen and Aerosmith and van Halen and Guns N' Roses...
and dammit, I want my Zoo back.

So, did the officially change format, or just 'drift'? We don't have a really solid classic rock station here, but we have about three that include it along with other stuff in one direction or the other, so if you're in the car it works out pretty well that one of them will have something. Less well if you don't want to channel surf.
It really wigs me out when stations play something out of format, even when I like the song. Of course, that's with the exception of songs from my childhood showing up on classic or oldies stations. I didn't think I was that old, but I guess some of that has been around for a while now.

Oh Sherilyn. You are too funny. Pat Green is the poster Marty gave me! Another "Texas boy gone international" Like Jack Ingram...who you probably don't recognize either. (Marty gave me Jack's new cd)
The radio thing would be annoying though. Pick a format. Classic Rock OR country. Don't mix them.
Of course, you know which side I'd pick ;) Doesn't matter though. *I* don't need a radio station. You do!
