Photos

I'm packing for my trip to D.C. tomorrow for the ScrapShare DC Crop and unloading photos from my cameras. Here are a few highlights from the trip...

Luxembourg City. On the left are the remains of a fortress and some subterranian caves used for defense and for hiding in times of war. We toured them.

One of the windows in Luxembourg Cathedral and a view of the interior.

Vianden Castle-outside and inside.

Some of the signs I love so much:

A Patton memorial:

Trier Cathedral (left) and the basilica attached to it. Constantine built two churches here next to each other and there have remained two churches ever since, although they are now connected with a passage.

Interiors of the basilica and then the cathedral. The basilica has some frescoes of the apostles from the Middle Ages that they are trying to preserve painted on the columns...you can see them from the side here. The cathedral supposedly houses the tunic worn by Jesus just before he was crucified. Constantine's mother went to Jerusalem in search of sites and relics and the locals were happy to oblige...of course, whether much of it is real is another story...the tunic is kept in a huge reliquary at the far end of the church up behind the altar.

The main square in Trier:

The Porta Nigra, the oldest Roman gate north of the Alps. There used to be a huge church behind it that got torn down, but it was shown in drawings from the 1800's that we saw.

Hey, look, it's the Fort Worth Stockyard's Hotel in Trier, ROFL! We never figured out what this was about. I guess the same folks own both hotels or something, as this was near the entrance of a hotel in Trier.

The two star cave we went to our last day after going out of our way to a three star cave that turned out to be closed.

More of the road signs I am so fond of:

Okay, I've wasted enough time here. :D Time to go pack.
