I'm home. The surgery went fine yesterday. I don't remember a thing after they started wheeling me out of the pre-op room where my parents kissed me goodbye until I was in recovery, I think, and then I must have passed out again and woke up in my room. So even though the doctor told me all about the surgery right afterwards, I don't remember a thing. He did tell my parents all about it and C got there just as I was waking up in my room. Awake being a relative term. I kept falling asleep all afternoon. Usually right after hitting the morphine button.
He said when he got in there and looked around, he was afraid he was not going to to be able to do it vaginally. My uterus was the size of a 12 week pregnancy, with lots of fibroids. More than he had seen on sono. Because there had been a big huge one blocking them, sitting right up on top of my uterus, about twice the size of a normal uterus. This little bowling ball is apparently what I have been feeling rolling around in there from side to side...especially my right side. He said he was surprised I hadn't complained more about it.
Somehow he did manage to do it all vaginally. Hallelujah! I can't imagine how much harder this would be with a big ol' incision across my tummy. I have three little ones across my lower abdomen...he took the band-aids off them this morning during rounds.
Anesthesia can make me sick, so they gave me the stuff to help prevent that, but warned me that this surgery is known for nausea. I wasn't nauseous waking up, and looking at food was okay. Eating it, not so much. I was on a liquid diet of Popsicles, broth and juice yesterday, but most of it didn't stay down. After 4pm I stopped hitting the morphine button, partially because I think that was what was making me nauseous, partially because they started giving pain meds in my IV, and by this morning, I was ready to eat real food. The nurses I had were all good and the food wasn't bad, either, once I could eat it. I also had a good sized room, and a private one at that, so all in all, it wasn't a bad experience.
I'm on lifting restrictions. Can't lift more than 5 pounds for a first couple of weeks. Then it's up to ten. It's hard to remember not to bend over or lift, since all my sutures and stitches are on the inside and what's on the outside aren't bad. My lower back hurts, probably from the way they contorted me during surgery.
I need to take a nap pretty soon, I think. It will take me a while to get over this anesthesia.

What a relief it went so well. Take very, very good care of yourself
Welcome home. Glad to hear he was able to complete the procedure as he originally planned. Rest, rest and more rest...that's what your body is telling you it needs when you keep falling asleep! Healing vibes coming your way!
Glad to hear that your surgery went well. I've been reading about your adoption journeys. So exciting. I'm so happy that you and C will finally be getting those babies you've dreamed of for so long! The nursery is adorable and we almost got the same set for Matthew! We ended up going with a sea turtle theme though. I'm glad we get to reconnect with TNS.
I hope your recovery is going smoothly!
Hope you are feeling better soon!
