A Very Brady Team

So it's that time of year again. The draft started for my fantasy football league. We lost three cousins this year (they are still alive...just not doing the FF..we lost Nick, Al, and Stan) and they have been duly replaced. One of the replacements is C. Yep. Sundays in our household will be even more interesting this year, especially when we play each other. The other two league additions are my cousin Joe and Curtis, my cousin Susie's husband. I'm still the only female other than Theresa, who seems to unofficially run her husband Mike's team.

I found out at the family reunion this spring that apparently my representation of the female element is being closely watched by some factions. I am "inspirational" to the commish's teenage daughter, who is in what might be termed the "junior league" of the under 18 kids-of-cousins set. (I suspect there is much less cussing and general bashing going on there.)

I took Tom Brady. C wanted Steven Jackson...but Jackson went with the pick before him, so he got Brian Westbrook, a Philly RB. My brother took Marion Barber. I drafted 7th, C was 6th, and Rudy was 8th. It's a serpentine draft, so this Wednesday the draft order will be reversed and we will go back and forth every Sunday and Wednesday until we are done.

It takes six weeks. We draft via e-mail. We each send in a list and Tony (The Commish) gives us the first pick on our list that is still available when he gets to us. It works pretty well. The only drawback is that since it is sort of a blind draft, we don't get to see what others are picking that round...are the running backs going fast? Is there a sudden run on the best wide receivers? We don't know what has happened until it is done, so drafting this way has its own strategy.

It's 100+ degrees here, but thinking football almost brings a chill to the air...
