So last night I signed up for the
Victorian Lace Today yahoo group. A home nest for us VLT obsessed folks.

They've just start 3 knitalongs for 3 different stoles/scarves in the book. So rather than casting on for the grey Shetland shawl, I have cast on for one of the KAL's in some beautiful yarn I wasn't planning on using for a while. The only lace-weight I have on hand that I was saving for a project that spoke to me.
I think it will be perfect for this particular scarf, entitled Victorian Ruby.

It is
Jade Sapphire 45% Chinese cashmere/55% silk in the color Ruby Slippers. This stuff is pricey, but I got it on sale over a year ago. It was 40% off or something ridiculous like that, and I knew I'd want to try lace someday. It is insanely soft. I've been petting it off and on since I bought it.
The color is variegated, which is a scary thing for most lace patterns...at least, the more complicated ones. Variations in color can obscure the intricate paterning. This scarf has intricate lace ends, but the body of it is a drop stitch pattern similar to the
clapotis. So I think the variegated colorway will add something great to the scarf instead of detracting.
And it works out great since I only have 800 yards...not enough for a full-on big stole or shawl. I won't need it all for this scarf, so I'll have to figure out something special for the leftovers...maybe lace cuffs on black fingerless gloves to match the scarf....
