So last night I volunteered for Relay for Life. This is a huge nationwide fundraiser for the National Cancer Society. Our community event started at 5pm and went overnight into the morning. Our MOMS Club had a booth and volunteer walkers. Of course, all of us being moms of small children, we were packed up and out of there at 11pm, leaving the overnight walking/camping/fun to the teens and adults who would be able to sleep it off the next day. :-) Our MOMS Club chapter has been doing fundraisers all spring and we raised more than $700 for this. Our club is split into two sections due to the size of our town, and the other club raised about the same, I think.
I helped with set-up at 4pm and was there until 11, but C came by with N for a couple of hours. We walked around, decorated a cupcake, ate some pizza, let her play in the bounce house a bit, got her face painted by the local high school art dept, and spray-painted her hair at our booth. Then she went home with Daddy to bath and bed while I stayed to work the booth some more and walk from 10-11pm. I have some foot problems...raw cut nerves from foot surgery in my 20's and a bit of planter fasciitis nowadays, so I can't do too much on my feet at one time, but my feet recovered pretty fast today.
She's crazy about bunnies and the art student who painted her face let her pick one from some illustrations on her phone.
I asked her today at lunch what her favorite part of last night was and she said it was "playing catch", which surprised me. I thought for sure that the bounce house would win.
