So I am still plugging away on the last pair of Really Big Socks. I'm about an inch away from finishing the last one and I'm tempted to throw a little party once I'm done.
There has been other knitting, though. I knit this cardi last month and finally finished the closure last week. I chose the yarn to go with a little dress I plan for N to wear to her aunt's wedding next month, and I am really glad I stumbled across this yarn at The Knitting Fairy's Studio because this may be one of my new go-to yarns for now on.
The yarn is Tatamy by Kraemer. It also comes in a tweed DK and tweed worsted weight. It's a 45/55 cotton/acrylic blend. Soft and lightweight. A little splitty, but not so much that it caused problems. Pattern is Nellie by Donna Higgins. Top-down raglan construction. no seams. it should fit her for a long time. I did the 4T size.
Turns out that this color is pretty versatile for N's wardrobe. It's warm out today, but I had her put this on for a few minutes to take photos and it matched the outfit she had on. I'm also working on a little white shrug in this yarn.
The closure is unusual and clever. The buttons are sewn down to the cardigan on both sides, then the crochet flowers slip over them and hold the front together. One of my flowers was too tight to slip over the button, so I just sewed the button down over the flower and I undo the other side to take the cardi off.
And here she is, headed to the park with Daddy after being grounded from both the park and the TV yesterday for throwing a fit yesterday morning. She does.not.like. when I ask her to use the potty before leaving the house. She wants to go when she needs to go and she doesn't have accidents, but I also don't want to have to go visit a public restroom with her if I don't need to. Today she didn't do it happily, and she did slam the bathroom door a little, but at least she didn't stand there stomping her feet repeatedly yelling, "No! I. Don't. Need. To. I. Don't. Want. To."
She lost the park/backyard privilege after that. The TV privileges were then lost when she went into the bathroom, slamming the door, then came right back out to stand in front of me with her arms crossed repeatedly saying, "Hmph!" with her bottom lip sticking out. I'm just glad she finally gave in and went because she was about to lose her computer game privileges and at some point, it becomes more punishment for us than it is for her. :-)
We talked yesterday, whenever she wanted to do something she was grounded from, about why she wasn't allowed to and how she needed to make a better decision next time, so we'll see how long it lasts this time around. She doesn't do this often, at least, but she's been a in a bit of a mood this last week. I've noticed that sometimes she gets this way when she is headed for a growth spurt, but I think this was due to the fact that she took a late nap Friday and couldn't go to sleep at her normal bedtime Friday night.
There's a reason they call them threenagers.
