Fiber Fest

So I was talking to my mom today and she asked if I bought any yarn this last weekend at Fiber Fest.

As if I wouldn't.

I wasn't really planning to buy much, but it's Fiber Fest. How could I not buy anything? And on top of that, some of the yarns there are not easy to find except at festivals. Like Brooks Farm.

In addition to the stuff above, I also bought a yarn ball/project bag that is (I hope) somewhere in C's car. And an accessory cube with the DFW Fiber Fest logo on it that I think will be good for sorting N's hair doodads.

So let's take a closer look at the goods.

First up, four skeins of Brooks Farm Solo Silk for a Triple S Shawl. I started this shawl a couple of years ago with some Solo Silk in different colors. Purples and blues. But I just wasn't feeling it and really wanted reds. So reds it is. Picking yarn for this shawl is tricky because you need colors that blend well, but you also need some contrast to make it pop. We had a Rock Star consultation at the booth along with a blessing from the Knitting Fairy, and I bit the bullet and bought these.

Wish me luck.

I also bought some Brooks Farm Trio, a yarn I've heard raves about. I was thinking until just now that this was Mas Acero, but no, I got Trio. I waffled a lot on that. This is probably going to be a simple bias shawl. I wanted something I could wear with browns in the fall.

I did get five hanks of Mas Acero for a sweater. Probably the Stellar sweater in the new Twist Collective.

I also fell hard for some Alisha Goes Around. I debated between this and a silvery silk blend that looked like molten metal with a slight shimmer to it. I decided to go with my gut and go teal...I also thought this would be more appropriate for my every day life, which is more blue jeans and tee shirts than business casual.

I also took three classes. Tunisian Crochet and Broomstick Lace from Mary Beth Temple and Sweater Fitness from Anne Hanson. What I learned is that Mary Beth is a talented teacher, Tunisian is easy, Broomstick Lace was a fiddly, frustrating challenge for me but I can get it to look even if I just practice, and Anne Hanson is a genius. She opened my eyes to aspects of sweater schematics, construction, and working between pattern sizes that I hadn't understood before. I highly recommend that class to anyone who has the opportunity to take it.

Fiber Fest was the best it has ever been. Great location. Great organization. And I'm not just saying that because I am good friends with some of the board. Excellent job, ladies. Really excellent.
