So most of the US knows we down here in Dallas (aka Superbowl Country) had a rather bizarre week of bad weather. Bizarre for us, anyway. Just when we were all ready to go forth into the sunshine after a couple of days of ice, which would have been almost normal to us, we got hit with snow and lots of it. Totally not normal for us. TXDOT was bringing in sand trucks from other parts of the state. I think I heard on the news that our whole county was working with about 1/3 of the sand/salt trucks that the city of Chicago has. Although for us it is just sand. We don't ever seem to use salt down here.
One of our favorite things about parenthood is experiencing things anew through the eyes of our daughter. This year she was into it all. The snow was dry and powdery and not good for snowballs or snowmen, so essentially she just walked around picking up snow and throwing it in the air. She also made snow angels, something she saw on TV in cartoons and especially a commercial. She would plop down on her back, make a quick angel, and then put her hand up for me to grab, just like the kid in the commercial.
The one good thing about Friday was that it made it into the 20's, so I bundled N up into three layers of clothing, including her new jacket and her new mittens (which were double-layered over the thin store-bought ones she already had), and took her out into the snow.
Last year, she was a bit young for it all. She really just stood there in the snow, looked at us like we were crazy, and then couldn't understand why we wouldn't let her sit down in it.
You can't see it in the photo below, but her snow angels all had a cable imprint running down the middle from the back of her jacket. :-) I was kind of glad the snow was as dry as it was. It hasn't been worth it for me to get her a waterproof jacket, but this one stayed pretty dry even if she was covered in quite a bit of the white stuff by the time we went back inside.
