Rockstars

Okay, so tomorrow I am hitting the road again to go down to Austin with some ladies from my knitting group to pose for Franklin Habit of The Panopticon Blog. He is doing a 1,000 Knitters photo project and I am so excited to be able to pose and meet him. you just have no idea. Apparently there is a fangirl living somewhere in my deepest recesses, because those who know me know I am not the fangirl type. But I heart Franklin and his blog. I love his writing. I love his knitting. I love the way he thinks his niece Abigail is the cutest niece ever, even though I don't agree (clearly my niece Abigail holds that title). I love his sense of humor and his creativity and I love the fact that he is Every Knitter and yet such an outstanding knitter that I can only hope to do it as well as him someday. His Four Wishes for Abigail shawl is, quite simply, one of the most gorgeous things I have ever seen...not least because I know how much love went into it, but also because I can appreciate the skill.
Whew! Told you my Inner Fangirl had emerged.

and lookee here: I know these people! These are all ladies from my Knit Night. The Rockstars.

Well, Indiana was fun and it was really good to see the extended family. I have 37 cousins on my dad's side. I think. Either there are 38 of us, or I have 38 cousins. I counted them all up once. I know all of my cousins, more or less. Not all by sight, but I know all their names. And some of my dad's five brothers and five sisters didn't have kids...so I can't imagine what could have happened if they had all been as prolific as Aunt Theresa.

When the cousins started having kids...that's when it got out of hand. I don't know all of those kids and now some of THOSE kids have kids.

I feel old.

But not too old. I still can't download that picture I told you about, but what it is is a photo of a young guy carding me at The Police concert we went to. Not some old guy who thinks we all look young in the way that I think 20 year olds look like 13 year olds...no, this guy was younger than me. probably a lot younger. And he carded me. Thankyouverymuch. Maybe I won't be mistaken for my children's grandmother by the time they get here. Or maybe this guy was just being nice to an old woman.

Here are a few photos from last weekend:

Uncle John is my dad's oldest brother. Uncle Frank is the youngest. That's John in the garage and Frank with the tractor. They both live and farm in Linton and co-operate a garage on the old homestead. I'm pretty proud of that photo of Uncle Frank. He hates having his photo taken. Hates it. But I think he likes me. :D

Uncle Frank took us for a couple of drives around the county, which he almost never leaves and knows like the back of his hand. He took us out to see a drag line...I had seen one before with my daddy, but C had never seen one. Coal mining is big in Linton and my Uncle Tom worked inside one of these for many years. This one is waiting around to be used again...the bucket was gone. The buckets on these are usually big enough to hold a car or two.

I have lots of other photos on a CD I haven't uploaded yet. But here are a few more from our drives. The first is my oldest brother and me at the one covered bridge of Greene County. The second is C at the world's third largest metal viaduct trestle track and the third photo is C and my brother way out on the track. There was no way I could go out there. I took two steps out, looked down to get my footing, saw the ground between the rails, and was back on land again in a flash.
