Gifts gone awry

These are the Dashings that I started last fall. In Classic O-wool. They were going to be a (female) Christmas gift and I chose the color accordingly based on what the intended recipient likes. I don't hate the color at all...but it isn't really what I would have chosen for me.
I finished them and was adding the thumbs when I got ancy about the fit. So I stopped and just finished them last week. They are designed to fit snug around the wrist to block out the cold...but I don't know...they fit me quite snugly, and I was afraid they'd be too snug for the recipient. I can get them on and off, but I have small hands. I don't know about the original intended recipient...I've never stared at her hands. :D They may fit fine...maybe it's just the pattern and the way they fit and the fact that they are so long. I did the smaller size.
So they would be fine to keep for me, except that at this point, living here in Texas, they aren't going to get much use. Maybe when we travel. But we aren't exactly snowbunnies. I have another skein of this yarn to make a hat or headband or scarf from. I'm undecided what to do, though. These are very warm. They really belong on the hands of a cold-weather dweller. Right now I am saving them to maybe gift later to some as yet unknown person who could get more use out of them.

The other gift gone awry is this pair of socks. They were initially intended for my secret pal, Sabine, from SP11. To expedite the sock making progress, so that I had a chance of finishing them on time, I did the foot in stockinette instead of continuing the lace pattern.

But something isn't right with the sock I finished the other night. I don't know if it is because it is a tad too short, or what the issue is, but the heel feels funny. It sort of bunches under my heel. This is a new thing...I've never had a heel feel like this, and I am not sure how to fix it. I am not sure I want to fix it. I could perhaps rip out the toe and make it a bit longer and more comfortable and maybe that would help the heel stay where it should and feel right. But I'm not in love with the yarn. The pattern is nice, but I'm not in love with it, either. There are so many things I'd rather knit. I'm really glad I decided to do something different for Sabine.

If I ever download the Christmas photos from the big camera, I'll show gifts gone good.
