The Huntress

So yesterday we went out to my parents' house for the day and N hunted eggs for the first time.

She has a felt sheep basket, of course. She is a yarnie in training, after all.
It also turned out to be great because the soft handle on it made it easy to carry on her arm and it was deep and flexible so she wasn't dumping eggs everywhere. We weren't sure what to expect, but after I showed her the first egg and showed her how to put it in her basket, she became a master egg hunter. She was a single-minded little egg-detector, going from one egg to the next.
For the most part, her older cousins left the more obvious eggs for her to discover, but she did spy one behind a bush from a distance and she wasn't leaving that bush until she had gotten around it to that egg.She held Mommy's hand with one had and grabbed eggs with the other.

By the end, she had quite a little haul.

We had lots of fun all day. We played with Grandmom's and Grandpa's toys, including what was deemed a truly old-fashioned phone that she knew how to use the first time even though we never showed her. Of course, she'll hold anything up to her ear and talk on it, LOL!
She gave Grandmom lots and lots of sugar. And was completely enthralled by Grandpa's bubbles. Grandpa has a rather impressive stash of bubble-making toys. By the end of the day, she had dumped out bubble soap and sat in it so many times, I'm not sure I'll need to add detergent to the load when I wash her clothes.

Grandmom and Grandpa also have a rather impressive collection of trikes and bikes, what with 7 grandchildren now.It only took 16 takes, but collectively we adults managed to coral and coach the kids into a decent photo. Thank goodness R is mature enough to hold N because if she hadn't been, there is no way this photo could have happened.
We love that N is getting to know some of her extended family. Little A has been usurped as the baby and while I think she is fascinated by her younger cousin, she is also coming to realize that there is more competition for attention and toys. At one point, A climbed into my lap in the same exact straddle position N loves so much and N was about 2 feet in front of me. N was QUITE taken aback and cried and yelled a bit until I picked her up as well behind A and gave her several kisses. Then she got down and was okay with it. She had never seen another child in my lap before and she was not too happy about it.
