Last minute RUSH

So tonight at around 6, C informed me that we were going out tonight. He had just bought tickets to the RUSH concert at the Smirnoff ampitheater (which will always be Starplex to me). I immediately thought of my friend Erin, who is the Biggest RUSH Fan Ever. It's a shame, really...I know whatever gets played on the radio, but can't call myself a true fan.

So we were out the door by 6:30 for dinner, then on the road at 7 to the ampitheater in south Dallas, near the fairgrounds. Good thing we gave ourselves that hour, as there was some definite firetruck weirdness going on. We were headed south on 35 approaching the mixmaster when a police car came by with his lights on. He came from the left as we were trying to get into position for a left exit to 30. A fire ambulance came from the right. Traffic slowed a bit and it looked like there might be something parked under an underpass and then a huge firetruck merged from the right. So of course we were letting all these lights and siren vehicles in front of us, and then they all pulled up under the underpass, with the firetruck coming up behind and parking at an angle, blocking our lane. So we moved over to get around, but just as we got there, all three vehicles took off again. There was two wrecked cars and a police car there, but I didn't see anything on fire. So the firetruck was about to cut off our exit that we had been going around to get so DH shot in front of the firetruck to make the exit.

The three vehicles were behind us, so then we slowed to let them all by, sirens and lights still going. Then they went up to another underpass in the Canyon (where 30 goes across south Dallas under a long series of underpasses, thus the name). So the truck pulls up at an angle again, blocking our lane. we move over to one lane, but just as soon as we get there, it takes off again.

yeah. weirdness.

Finally the police car, the ambulance, and the firetruck slwed and found a turning place to go the other way on 30. We passed them as they all turned around. I wonder if they ever did find the fire.

I'm off to take a quick shower...it was hot, hot, hot tonight in that covered seating. A little of the air from the stage made it to us, but not much. We were 20somehting rows back...row V...far, far, far left. Limited view of the total stage, but a good view of the band. It wasn't nearly as good a concert for us as The Police, but it was a very nice way to spend a Saturday night. I only wish I had taken my camera, as I would have liked to have gotten some video for Erin.

Hmm, well, here is the South Park clip that opened Tom Sawyer. Found several views on Youtube.
