Long time no blog

Well, it's been quite a while. What have I been up to? Lots, but I won't go into all of it, just some of it for now.
I finally finished the mini-quilt for charity auction. It's due tomorrow. I finished it about an hour ago. So very me. It's my first applique, my first quilting, my first binding, etc. I've pieced lots of tops, just never finished them out, as we have NIN volunteers who enjoy that sort of thing more than I do. The theme of the quilt show this will be auctioned at is a holiday theme, so I chose the snowman since lots of people collect snowman stuff.

I can now have my life back. I waited until this last weeknd to start the applique since I had never done that before and it was intimidating. But it went okay. Not great, but okay. I learned alot, anyway, and I can see where applique is addictive. Hand-applique, anyway.

On the knitting front, I haven't done a whole lot. Finished some hats for The Ships Project that I need to mail before the 7th. I have some socks on the needles, but they haven't been getting much love.
I started some pretty pink heart socks for my February Socktopia and got quite a bit done while Daddy was in the hospital, but being as tonight is the 28th, I don't think I am going to make the Socktopia deadline. The pattern is the Cairi's Sweetheart socks which is linked from KnittingP pattern Central. Yarn is KnitPicks Essential in Petunia. I started out on size 1's and then realized doing the heel flap that the gauge was much two tight, so I switched to 2's after the heel. This means the foot fits fine but the ankle is a bit snug.

Then there are these socks I started in December. The pattern is the arrow lace pattern from Sensational Knitted Socks. Yarn is Melody in a variegated orange color. It's my first lace attempt, although the heart lace above may be the first I finish. I usually go for more mindless knitting....TV watching stuff. Not usually garter or stockinette, but usually a pattern with a short repeat that is easy to memorize. THIS is not easy to memorize. the last 6 rows or so are, but the first few rows are all different and keep me thinking.

Lovely socks! ;-) I did wonder what they'd look like in a plain yarn and they do look splendid!
