Speaking of pain.
Last Wednesday, I woke with a bit of a crick in my back. Nothing awful. N's sleep habits have been screwy and I've been back on the air mattress in her room. But in late afternoon it suddenly became a very painful muscle spasm on the left side, mid-way up my back. Could barely move. Could not twist or bend over. I managed at knitting that night, but it was very painful to do certain things and I was taking ibuprofen and resting it. Thursday I located my heating pad and spent the day with heat on it. It got a little better. I was only able to pick up N by taking her hands in mine and lifting her straight up to me. She's at 25.5 pounds now.
Yesterday...yesterday my whole back sort of gave out. The spasm is gone. But now I get bands of pain across my mid and lower back whenever I hit certain positions. Picking N up is out of the question, as is just holding her, which I found out this morning when I got C to hand her to me and I had to put her down and then stood there just crying from the pain trying to get my back muscles to quit freaking out. I don't know what the hell I did, but lying down doesn't seem to help much. Sitting doesn't help much. I can get sort of comfortable, but then when I go to get up, it takes a while to get to a fully upright position. Once there, I'm okay as long as I don't stand too long.
C has really picked up the slack. I can't rock N and then get up with her and put her in the crib, so he has been putting her to bed. I can get her in the high chair by lifting her by her hands, but in general, we are trying to rest my back as much as we can and he is doing it all and getting me stuff so I don'tg have to get up.
I'm entered into the Ravelympics. For those of you not familiar with it, it is a competition on Ravelry done during the Olympics. The Yarn Harlot invented the concept and now it has taken on a life of its own on Ravelry. I'm on the Battlestar Kickasstica team with my friend Tasha and a group of rabid BSG fans who play an ongoing game of project completion. We compete against ourselves to complete a project or projects during the 17 days...the goal is to challenge ourselves to excel at our craft and achieve our own personal glory, whatever that may be. It's do or die, gold medal or no medal at all, and the only requirement is that you challenge yourself in the 17 day period. During the 2008 summer games, I completed my Mr. Greenjeans. I'd love to do another sweater this year, but the arrival of Miss N has made me adjust my expectations on lots of levels and this is just one of them. I'm aiming to complete a shawlette called the Gaenor in a colorway of sock weight yarn named after Franklin of Franklin's Panopticon. I really love this colorway and also have it in worsted weight. I'm a total fan girl and want to wear this when he comes to speak and teach at DFW Fiberfest in April.
I don't usually knit in a reclining position, but the way I knit, I can manage it. I've knit today lying propped up on my back and on my side. I'm determined. If this doesn't improve by Monday, I'm going to the doctor somehow, not that I expect him to be able to do much. I just can't have this going on for too long. Having a baby really does change everything. I can't just lay around and heal.
I can't wait to get my regular laptop back so I can post photos and vids. N took the spoon last night from C and did an amazing job of getting food into her mouth by herself. I grabbed the video camera I keep on the counter and got some of it on video. Priceless. Hopefully the laptop will be ready this coming week.
